AISHA SIDDIQA VOCATIONAL CENTER

“Ayesha Siddiqa Vocational Training Centre, Al-Momin Foundation” was established in February 2017 and it launched its Tailoring Course for women in March 2017.

The Centre aims at addressing youth and women, especially from deprived backgrounds, with the mission to boost their effective professional skills and the acquired expertise in dress making and design which will eventually lead to appropriate livelihood opportunities. The project aspires at becoming an “Income Generating Activity” for women to promote economic security of the participant, her family and her community at large.

This venture is simultaneously providing participants with basic education while encouraging the habit of saving money and enhancing their business skills.

Tailoring and dressmaking are high demand services in Kenya. The Centre therefore runs at 2 Year Course:

  • The first year being dedicated to development of pattern cutting, tailoring of simple garments and;
  • The second year to widening and building up of their scope in entrepreneurship. At this stage participants are exposed to skills like hand/machine embroidery, quilting and complex designing.

The Centre at 2nd Year also offers professional entrepreneurship training for the selected focused group. The Centre is proud to announce that several students are already generating basic income for their families through initiative of marketing their skills and picking orders for tailoring.

This Project of Al Momin Foundation is run under the banner of “Ayesha Siddiqa Vocational Training Centre” in the able hands of Sister Shamim Malik (Project Director)
